January 13, 2020 to January 27, 2020 Medical assistance in dying - Public consultations and roundtables with experts and stakeholders

The Government of Canada held public consultations and meetings with key stakeholders to obtain Canadians’ views to inform next steps in the process, as well as decisions on how to best address the Superior Court of Québec’s court ruling on Canada’s framework for medical assistance in dying. To support a focused dialogue around amending the legislation, the Government of Canada asked Canadians questions about key issues including eligibility, safeguards and advance requests.

September 30, 2020 to November 6, 2020 United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

The Government of Canada worked closely with Indigenous Peoples to better understand their priorities to help shape the initial draft of an action plan and begin to identify potential measures for aligning federal laws with the Declaration.

October 1, 2020 to January 31, 2022 Department of Justice Canada Accessibility Plan

With the adoption of An Act to Ensure a Barrier-free Canada (Accessible Canada Act), the Government of Canada has fulfilled its mandate promise to introduce new accessibility legislation. The Government of Canada will continue to work with persons with disabilities and the disability community, as well as with provinces and territories, towards the realization of an accessible Canada by 2040.

Justice Canada, in the preparation of its Accessibility Plan, conducted consultations with persons with disabilities to make Justice programs and services more accessible.

If any Government-wide consultations take place for Government of Canada Accessibility Plans in the future, Justice Canada will capitalize on these opportunities to consult.
