Justice Canada’s Research and Statistics Division approached organizations and experts serving Indigenous, Black and racialized communities to explore their interest in leading or being engaged in research under the Justice Data Modernization Initiative, as well as their advice on the initiative’s research plan and specific research projects. Under this initiative, Justice Canada commissioned and conducted research to address the overrepresentation of Indigenous, Black and racialized people in the criminal justice system. The objectives were to ensure stakeholders were aware of the initiative, have an opportunity to inform the research plan, as well as to lead or be engaged in specific research projects.
