Goals and Objectives:

To work with the child welfare system to reunite children with their families where possible.

Target Group Description:

Aboriginal women, single fathers, couples.

Program Description:

The program provides training to clients on strengthening skills dealing with communication, and maintaining healthy relationships free from violence and abuse. It also helps clients develop safety plans for themselves and their families, offers support groups and makes referrals to the local women's shelter. Elders are involved in the process and utilize traditional teachings to assist clients.

Program Successes/Impact:

Successfully returning children to their homes. Being instrumental in the increase of parenting skills and safety plans.

Key Lessons/ Challenges:

It is difficult for clients to sustain healthy and safe environments for themselves and their children. This makes it challenging to work with the child welfare system.
