Survey of Sexual Assaults Survivors
FIGURE 5.1 JUSTICE SYSTEM INVOLVEMENT WITH ALL CASES
Figure 5.1 is a horizontal bar graph that illustrates the survey respondents’ relative involvement in the criminal justice system and the eventual outcome of their cases. The x-axis shows the number of respondents, ranging from 0 to 120. The y-axis shows the level of involvement in the justice system: total respondents, considered reporting, reported, alleged perpetrator “picked up,” alleged perpetrator charged, accused found guilty, accused acquitted, and charges withdrawn.
The results show the attrition of cases through the system: a total of 102 people responded, 87 respondents considered reporting, 64 respondents reported, 43 respondents reported the alleged perpetrator was “picked up,” 39 respondents reported that the alleged perpetrator was charged, 18 respondents reported that the accused was found guilty, 8 respondents reported that the accused was acquitted and 4 respondents reported that the charges were withdrawn.
