Survey of Sexual Assaults Survivors
FIGURE 5.2 JUSTICE SYSTEM INVOLVEMENT WITH CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE CASES
Figure 5.2 is a horizontal bar graph that illustrates relative involvement in the criminal justice system and the eventual outcome of the case for respondents who experienced child sexual abuse. The x-axis shows the number of cases, ranging from 0 to 90. The y-axis shows the level of involvement in the justice system: total respondents who experienced child sexual abuse, considered reporting, reported, alleged perpetrator “picked up,” alleged perpetrator charged, accused found guilty and accused acquitted.
The results show the attrition of cases through the system: a total of 79 people responded, 69 respondents considered reporting, 27 respondents reported, 21 respondents reported the alleged perpetrator was “picked up,” 18 respondents reported that the alleged perpetrator was charged, 11 respondents reported that the accused was found guilty, and 2 respondents reported that the accused was acquitted.
