Figure 6.1 is a horizontal bar graph that illustrates the reasons that respondents gave for reporting their abuse to the police. The x-axis shows the proportion of total responses, ranging from 0 to 18. The y-axis shows the reasons for reporting: desire to expose/punish perpetrator, for safety/protection of siblings/children, for own safety/protection, others, support/encouragement, for personal healing, other, for protection of other women, perpetrator reported by other survivor.

The reason with the greatest proportion of responses was the desire to expose/punish the perpetrator (17), followed by for the safety/protection of siblings/children (11), for own safety/protection (9), others’ support/encouragement (8), for personal healing (7), other (7), for protection of other women (6), perpetrator reported by other survivor (5).
