A diverse community

The Department is defined by a diverse and inclusive workforce, representing the broad range of identities, experiences and perspectives across Canada’s population, including people who are Black, persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, people who are racialized, women, and members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

This diversity is central to the Department’s work and culture. The Department recognizes that everyone in Canada has the right to fully participate in society and acknowledges the adverse impact that government decisions can have on marginalized communities. It is further committed to building a more positive relationship with Indigenous peoples, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis, and supporting Reconciliation. The Department has made commitments intended to address these impacts on equity-deserving groups, both within our workforce and in Canada’s justice system. These commitments will remain a priority.
