Section 4. Key Recommendations
- Black communities are being excessively consulted for issues involving their experiences with the criminal justice system. Such projects must equally look to address and investigate the systemic and racist nature of the criminal justice system as a root cause to existing issues in the Black community. Government projects of concern for the impact of anti-Black racism must consult within the power and actions of law enforcement groups and the various systems within it that continue to uphold and protect any unjust actions.
- Policy development must include the safety and protection of Black youth within institutions and their neighborhoods. Creating more job and recreational resources rather than policing in Black environments where they find leisure, fun, sport, and community, such as their playgrounds, basketball courts, education, and neighborhoods, can mitigate feelings of misplacement and bring forth a sense of belonging.
- Government projects involving Black community consultations must prioritize keeping those consulted communities informed of project findings and results. Direct solutions and actual changes suggested from the Black community must be implemented for their communities and with timely consideration before continuing to create new projects of community mobilizations and engagements.
